Bank Robbery in Dawson Springs by Four Masked Men

Four men with coal dust on their faces held up the First National Bank at Dawson Springs Kentucky and escaped with several thousand dollars in silver and currency. Two entered the bank forcing the assistant cashier to lie down while a customer was struck. They gathered money from the vault and cash drawers and fled in an automobile with Indiana plates before a posse formed.

A resident arrested on four counts of failing to comply with city sanitary laws has presented the matter to Mayor B. L. Malone and vows to obey the statute.

Road Named for Joe Wheeler at Decatur Event

Several hundred people gathered at General Joe Wheeler’s Decatur-Tuscumbia highway home for the Joe Wheeler Memorial Association’s second annual convention. Colonel Finnell announced the highway will be renamed the Joe Wheeler highway and spoke of Wheeler’s character while Travis Williams praised the association’s goal of a national shrine at the Wheeler homestead akin to the Hermitage. The group adopted the constitution and by laws and planned future activities, followed by a picnic supper.

The three week diphtheria inoculation drive ends Friday afternoon. Dr. H. C. McRee will visit scattered county areas for two more weeks to complete the required three toxoid shots due to rain postponements. The campaign is considered fairly successful with hundreds still needing inoculation.

Charred body found in automobile near Indianapolis

The charred body of Harold Herbert Schroeder of Mobile Alabama was found in a burned car along a road west of Indianapolis. Deputies said evidence pointed to mob murder. Schroeder operated a radiator company and was last heard from during a northbound automobile trip.

Fifteen Persons Missing After Amico Foundering Off Santa Monica

Fifteen passengers from the fishing boat Amico remain missing after it foundered three-quarters of a mile off Santa Monica on Memorial Day. Three bodies have been recovered, leaving a possible total casualty list of 18. Coast guard boats and nearby vessels worked the scene but expected no further recoveries for days.

The thief entered through a rear window and inspected the premises. He drank liquor by punching a cap with an ice pick, leaving empty bottles as evidence. He then took three of ten cigarette packages from a new carton and replaced it, suggesting limited loss.
