Fleeing Robber Shot By Citizen In Ola Ark

L R Masters of Russellville was killed today by A F Hendricks a 70 year old hotel operator after a burglary at the Bank of Ola and the post office. Masters’ two companions escaped firing at Hendricks as they fled. A posse searched the lowland area near town while track dogs were sent from the state prison farm.

Cecil Witt Buried Following Nashville Death

Cecil Witt, who died suddenly Thursday night from acute indigestion in Nashville, will be buried today at 2:30 p.m. at the city cemetery after funeral services at Ninth Street Methodist Church. The Rev. C. M. Tyndal, Rev. W. D. Barnes, and Rev. A. H. Nabors will officiate. Pallbearers include Guy Jones, Barnes Ross, John Butler, J. Hi Vaughn, F. M. Hamilton, and J. W. McCluskey, with honorary pallbearers from the church Brotherhood class handling flowers.

Graham Paige car rolls over on Lacon mountain

A Graham Paige driven by George E. Dunn with a hitchhiker turned over several times on Lacon mountain yesterday afternoon, plunging into a ditch. Both occupants escaped serious injury as the axle sheered on the curve. The car landed right side up after two or three flips and was towed to the Morgan County Buick garage for repair.

Four injured as Bee Line collision sends four to hospital

A truck and a car collided on the Bee Line highway just south of Cedar Lake crossroads injuring four people. Dobbs, of Cullman, was among the injured, described as the most seriously hurt. Roosevelt, a Negro driver for Birmingham dealer John Pragier, suffered severe facial injuries. Investigating officers Sheriff Davis and Patrolman McCall noted the southbound truck and northbound car involved, with the car attempting to pass a second truck.

Unidentified woman found shot to death at country club

A well dressed woman about 40 was found shot in the Cedar Brook country club driveway in Philadelphia. Two bullet wounds one below the heart and another in the back of the head. A motorist left after notifying the caretaker. handbag with a dollar and two 2 caliber shells found nearby.

Schools Closed In 43 Counties In Alabama

Forty three of Alabama's sixty seven county school systems have closed due to funding shortfalls. Reported by Dr. Dale S. Young of the State Department of Education, the closures affect Limestone and Etowah counties this week with thousands of students affected. Several counties including Cullman Macon and Shelby were not expected to reopen on Monday. Crenshaw county plans to close on March 31.

No Trace Found of Masked Bandit in Cullman Post Office

Decatur police chased a masked bandit who robbed the Cullman post office Friday morning. Lee Lassiter was forced to walk with the robber a mile north before Gordon Carroll warned authorities. Stamp drawers were damaged but nothing taken. bloodhounds failed to trace the suspect, who likely fled on Bee Line highway.
