Responsibility Repeal Approved By Legislature
The Alabama House and Senate passed companion bills repealing the relatives responsibility law of 1951 with wide margins 83-9 in the House and 32-2 in the Senate. Tax Cut Fight Shifts as Byrd Concedes Votes Change
Senator Byrd concedes he has lost some Democratic support in opposing a $20 tax cut while maintaining hope for Senate passage. Icebox Victims Up Mishap Toll in Alabama
Seven people died in Alabama accidents on Thursday. Two young siblings, Gweldolyn Balenger aged 6 and Don aged 4, suffocated in an abandoned icebox stored in a smokehouse. Other fatalities included Mrs Grace Atkins 53 of Oneonta, Albert Earl Pierce 24 of Nesmith, James Robert Craft 69 of Simcoe, and motorcycle victim Robert Lettow 37 of Wetumpka. Two Little Girls Reported Abducted In Chicago
Nearly 100 police searched the north and northwest districts for two missing girls Kathleen Neumann nine and Carol Tillotson one who were abducted by a young man who lured them into his car with two other girls. Christine Harsla six and sister Larlene seven were later released after being driven around for over an hour.

Flying Box Car Crashes Near Cullman Eleven Parachute to Safety
Eleven airmen parachuted to safety yesterday as an Air Force C 119 box car crashed near Cullman Alabama. The plane likely became unmanageable after a propeller ran away and exploded on impact along the Mulberry Fork River. Two crewmen were injured as investigators arrived from Sewart Air Force Base.

Face Lifting Planned for Niagara Falls
Engineers eye a widening crevice about 20 feet back from the crest on the American side amid a growing rockfall threat.
