Early planted cotton shows promise in county reports
John A Lile of Decatur 1 reports some of the best cotton seen in the county with early April planting and blooms found a week before last. J E Sims of Trinity notes aw fully good cotton set early in April with blooms expected by now. Farmers planting early with a good stand are fortunate as early cotton appears more promising, though yield depends on the season.

High Fertilization Demonstrations Boost Morgan County Corn Yields
In 1947 Morgan County farmers tested thick spacing and high fertilizer rates 600 pounds of 4 10 7 at planting and 200 pounds ammonium nitrate or 400 pounds nitrate of soda. Hybrids produced 50 to 113 bushels per acre, above the county average of 19. By 1948 about 350 known one acre demonstrations were planned.

Interest in dairying grows among 4 H Club boys with five registered Canadian Jersey heifers bought at the Jersey Sale in Decatur on June 19. Buyers include John Harold West Maurice Terry Kermit King from Oak Ridge Harold Lee from Collins and Billy Owen from Trinity plus Dansqg Sparkman Murray Jacklyn Jacobs and Louis Key from nearby communities. Several other boys have registered dairy calves and are preparing them for the district dairy event in Decatur on September 16 and 17.
