Sheriff Defends Ambush Slaying in Mobile Case
Mobile County Sheriff Tom Purvis and eight staff members face federal charges over an Oct. 12 ambush shooting of Louis Wallace a life-sentenced inmate. Purvis defended the action as protecting the public, amid support from Alabama lawmen and a $3,600 defense fund. The indictment alleges a plan to shoot inmates from an ambush after a hole was dug in a second floor cellblock. Purvis plans to stay on duty as arraignment approaches.
