Reserves Get New Benefits Through Bill
President Truman signed a bill granting retirement credits to reserve officers and men of the army air force and navy. Reserves can retire at 60 with 20 years in reserve and must have active service in World War I or II. Retirement pay is 2.5 percent of base pay per active duty year plus 0.5 percent for inactive years, capped at 75 percent of the highest active duty pay. The act overhauls promotion and retirement rules and creates boards to review records for potential retirement or dismissal.
