The Merchants Bank of Florence formed on July 5 1892 later became Central Bank of Alabama NA with 39 North Alabama branches and 77 offices statewide. It expanded to Decatur headquarters in 1905 and changed names through the years, serving 12 counties with nearly 800 employees and assets over 527 million by 1977.
