Morgan County Conservation Club staged a successful fish rodeo at Wheeler and Wilson Lakes. A total of 862 participants from 41 towns competed over two days earning 17 prizes across categories with a five pound bass from Flint Creek by Joe Ray of Cullman topping the field. Local towns including Decatur Cullman Hartselle and Belle Mina secured multiple prizes.

13 year old Holt schoolboy fatally injured when his bicycle collided with an automobile driven by Garvis Sutton 23 on a county road. Sutton said the boy lost control and veered into the car while riding with other boys.

Rail freight car loadings rise slightly in latest week
The Associations of American Railroads said 555,569 cars of revenue freight were loaded for the week ending last Saturday. This is up 1,715 cars or 0.3 percent from the prior week, down 197,218 or 26.2 percent from a year ago, and 370,497 or 40 percent lower than 1930 levels.

Premature Blast at Monument Field Kills Eight in New Mexico
An oil well time bomb exploded during a shooting operation near Hobbs New Mexico killing eight men including banker George A Kaseman and injuring four. Victims include H A Greer J T Broughton Forrest Huston Charles Wrigley W P Peck and Alex Blair. Jack Starkey died later in hospital. Investigators opened inquiries into the accident and bomber mechanism.

In Austell Georgia on June 24 police investigated the deaths of Mr J Ed Peek and his wife discovered beside their wrecked car in a railroad cut. The couple reportedly met a unknown young pair at an inn near the Chattahoochee river bridge the night before. A farmer heard a crash and blinking lights near the overpass around 1 am. Cobb County Deputy Sheriff George MacMillan kept the belief the couple were murdered and their car pushed over the embankment.
