Lighthouse Blast Threatens Missing Man At Sea Tower
Coast Guard reports a blast at a lighthouse 23 miles southeast of Manitou Island left one man missing and others evacuated with burns. Maxwell, 34, of Houghton Michigan, a fuel supplier and father of five, was believed inside the tower as Scobie, 22, of Troy Michigan, and Horne, 18, of New York described a tarpaulin shelter on the tower apron. Fire and gas fumes prevented search while Woodrush moved in from Duluth to investigate and 1100 gallons of generator fuel burned. Daniels suffered burns and lacerations and was hospitalized in Keweenaw.
