Baltimore June 21 Former Judge Alton B Parker of New York was chosen as temporary chairman of the Democratic National Convention by the arrangements committee. The selection faced opposition from W J Bryan whose supporters on the committee submitted four alternative names. Eight votes went to Parker, with three for Henry of Texas and Ollie James of Kentucky, and one each for Kern of Indiana and O Gorman of New York. The opposition split the vote as campaign managers sought influence ahead of the nomination.
