Drew Pearson and Robert Allen discuss postwar rewards for Republicans in Roosevelt’s final days, naming ambassadors and officials amid a kit bags controversy. The piece also cites the World Economic Conference and currency fears influencing dollar value and international trade policy.
L. B. Ferguson, after three years with Sterchi Stores Inc, becomes credit manager of the Sterchi Store here, succeeding T. P. Gates who returns to Huntsville. Former Elkton, Tennessee native, Ferguson is already known in northern Alabama and southern Tennessee and will reside at 320 Johnston Street, the VanArsdale home.
Mrs Lon Monk 46 a respected Decatur Route 2 resident died at home Thursday afternoon after a long illness. Surviving are her husband one daughter Mrs J W Wardlow two sons Jodie Virgil and James her mother Mrs J R Emery and one grandchild. Funeral services set for 3 PM at Falkville Methodist Church conducted by Rev B P Collier with interment at Falkville Cemetery directed by Priest.
Funeral services were held at Roselawn cemetery at 2 p m for Mrs. Henry Puckett who died Tuesday morning at Benevolent Hospital. Interment followed with a priest directing and was delayed awaiting a relative from Boston Mass.
Smiling faces at Goodrich Silvertown on Lee street as word comes from Akron that a wage increase is effective immediately for all Goodrich workers. Dick Mac Charlie and Harvey share in the good news with their colleagues across the plant.
In early morning hours the president, by Congress, accelerates emergency powers. He signs three major bills industrial supervision, the Glass Steagall banking reform, and railroad reorganization. He calls the industrial control act the most important legislation. He departs tonight on a special train for a Massachusetts coast cruise.
Two men identified as Pretty Boy Floyd and Adam Richitti abducted Sheriff Jack Killingsworth of Polk County in Bolivar Missouri. Joe Richitti a garage mechanic said Adam Richitti and Floyd stopped for car work and forced the sheriff into the car. A later call said the abductors were headed toward Sedalia.
G. P. Banniza, manager of the Princess Theatre, notes an error in Thursday’s advertisement where Sterchie Stores, Inc. was omitted. The Daily regrets the mistake and the correction is issued.
A Decatur dealer disposed of 800 bales of cotton on Thursday at better than nine cents, averaging middling quality. Small lots have sold steadily for weeks while most local cotton is now sold. Farmers sold holdings amid an advancing price trend with little damage from recent cold weather. Officials await Secretary Wallace's acreage reduction plan and remuneration details, expected to lift prices.
Washington June 16 The administration approved plans to call for bids on a 25 million dollar public building 45 days from now in addition to another 25 million dollar project currently inviting bids Assistant Secretary L W Robert sanctioned the arrangement with detailed project lists yet to be formulated

Moscow officials have heard nothing from aviator Jimmy Mattern since he departed Khabarovsk in Siberia for the trans Pacific leg of his world flight. The start of his flight occurred Wednesday and authorities said they were not yet unduly alarmed.
Athens will host a key hearing on June 22 as Judge James E. Horton reviews Heywood Patterson’s bid for a new trial. Patterson, condemned to death for an assault on Victoria Price aboard a Southern Railway freight train, was the first of nine defendants tried here. The case was moved from Limestone County to Morgan County on venue grounds.
Southside Baptist Church starts a two week revival with a Home Coming service at 11 AM on Sunday. Rev L L Hearn, formerly pastor 1917 to 1919 and now in Birmingham, will preach with W R Wallace directing the singing. Two services daily after Sunday. The morning service.
Margaret E. Murray 86 died Thursday at 6 p.m. at her daughter’s home 451 Johnston with several years of illness. Survived by son T S Murray of Jefferson Texas and daughters Mrs F P Graves and Mrs Dolly Porter of Decatur. Funeral planned at Priest’s parlors with burial in Jefferson Texas.
Police arrested two black men Thursday afternoon as suspects in a break in at the W. D. Simpson residence at 507 Seventh Avenue West. After questioning, officers released them due to lack of sufficient evidence and uncertain identification.
The 78th Congress adjourned after approving President Roosevelt’s veterans pay terms. Senate and House compromises ended a long dispute over compensation cuts, with a 208 117 House vote sustaining the compromise and a 45 36 Senate vote approving the agreement. Byrnes proposed amendment would address Spanish American War veterans.
The Decatur Ten Year Plan will be pictured in a forthcoming issue of the L N Magazine. The Chamber of Commerce is preparing the manuscript to outline the full history of the plan and the first year's response from farms and related entities.
The U S circuit court of appeals reversed Federal Judge James Lowell and vacated a habeas corpus writ preventing George Crawford's return to Virginia. The case is remanded to enter an order remanding Crawford to state police custody for extradition to Virginia on a murder charge. The decision prompts comment on juror racial composition and echoes earlier Scottsboro related trials in Alabama.
William Clarence Bynum died this morning at Benevolent Hospital. Funeral services are set for Saturday at 10 o clock at Key s Cemetery in Lawrence County with Rev J D Pickens officiating. He is survived by four sons, one brother and six sisters including Keys Bynum of Texas and Viola of the hospital. Brown directs arrangements.
A meeting of those interested in the Little Theatre is convened this evening at 7 30 oclock in the Tennessee Valley Bank. All are invited to attend.

J. Raley of Lyons returned after visiting relatives in Troy and Montgomery.
Roy Williams of Cullman was in Decatur today on business matters. He met with local officials to discuss investment and development opportunities in the area.
