Seed Crop Boom In Macon County Ahead Of Harvest
Macon County farmers expect to reap a seed crop haul totaling around 1 million dollars from 13 000 acres this year. Growers have already planted and harvested seed from blue lupine Caley peas crimson clover and other crops and plan additional harvests of lespedeza sericea cotton and velvet beans this fall. County agent M F Whatley notes seed production rising alongside livestock as a buffer against crop program losses.
