A 21 year old woman Beatrice Wood and accomplice Frederick Bauer, both arrested, allegedly abducted Gerald McCrohan from a carriage while his mother shopped. The suspects claim the child was taken to replace her dead infant. Gerald was recovered unharmed as authorities pursued the case.
