Minnie Pearl Creator Traces Roots From Baileyton Cabin
Famed comedienne Minnie Pearl credits a Baileyton Alabama cabin neighbor Mrs. Sarah Ophelia Cannon for her stage persona. Cannon taught Minnie to pattern mountain girl humor and inspired her first paid act in 1937. Pearl rose from Centerville Tennessee roots to Opry fame and a 1960s television career, later opening Minnie Pearl Chicken outlets.
