Partly cloudy outlook and mild temperatures dominate Decatur notices. The Decatur cotton market reported middling at 35.5 and strict low 34.5. Local residents, church speakers, and civic leaders are cited. poll tax deadline January 31 and 1948 election voting rules noted.
Alabama Governor James E. Folsom bars reporters from daily press conferences. Only news wire and weekly papers may attend. other officials will issue statements. Finney, the executive secretary, cited no reason and did not explain future scheduling. The move follows accusations that daily papers printed lies about him during a campaign. The amendment to convene the legislature without a call was rejected at the special election.
The Decatur Daily asks AP members in Alabama to urge W. F. Caldwell to instruct Montgomery reporters to abstain from Governor press conferences until they are reopened to air news and radio representatives. The move is framed as a stand for press freedom and a response to an attack on it.
