Gator Bowl trip and Watch Night service noted
Walter H. Todd Sr. plans to travel to Jacksonville to attend the Gator Bowl game between Auburn and Vanderbilt and will visit Miami and Key West on the way home. Central Baptist Church schedules a Watch Night service from 8 30 p m to 12 05 a m with Judson Hawthorne directing parts of the program.

Property owners in four counties have two days left to pay 1955 taxes without a penalty. After Saturday tardy taxpayers will incur a 10 percent fee in addition to their assessment when visiting the collector. Assessments may be completed before Jan 1 and payments withheld until late spring without sale advertising.

Today’s 8:30 a.m. reading 40, 11:15 a.m. 48. Forecast cloudy with occasional rain today and Friday, milder until late Friday when a cold front arrives. High 53, low 46, high Friday 56.

After arrival he practiced golf for about 30 minutes on a naval base diamond then took a one hour stroll to view submarines including the Amberjack. Segregationists Form Federation to Unite Pro Segregation Forces
The Federation for Constitutional Government, backed by Sen. James Eastland and Georgia Attorney General Eugene Cook, formed a group overnight to coordinate pro segregation efforts across the South. Forty five participants from twelve states approved a plan to back Virginia's interposition doctrine proposing a constitutional amendment to bar racially separate public facilities. If ratified by three fourths of states a Supreme Court ruling on segregation could be voided.

In Bussac France Sgt George McElroy of Herrin Illinois stepped into the shower yesterday and found white wine flowing from the tap. The same occurred in the kitchen as his wife prepared dinner. The region uses water from wells and wine ships sometimes mix with water in tank trucks. The driver did not know the load he carried.

Patricia Anne Cowden of Raleigh North Carolina was chosen 1956 Maid of Cotton from 23 entrants representing 13 cotton states. The Labor Department estimates 4 200 strikes caused 28 million man days of idleness in 1955. Stoppages rose 21 percent from 3 468 in 1954 with lost time up nearly 24 percent. About 2 percent million workers were involved, largely from brief steel and auto stoppages during contract talks.

Mother Feeds 2 Young Sons 190 Aspirins
A 40 year old New York mother fed 190 aspirin to her two sons 8 and 6 after a quarrel with her husband Navy seaman Joseph Blackwell. The children were hospitalized in serious condition but improved. She planned to take her own life and was charged with felonious assault.

Dallas Girl Held Six Days in Juvenile Home Over Quarrel
A 12 year old girl was detained in a maximum security juvenile home for six days over a quarrel between her parents. Police could not locate her records during the holidays and the Juvenile Department closed for two and a half days. A city detective later found her name in the records and contacted relatives. She had been moved to Sunshine Home for homeless girls after initial detention.
