Martial Law Extended as Buddhists Threaten Huong Regime
In Saigon, Buddhist leaders vow to resume efforts to topple Premier Tran Van Huong while the government extends martial law for another month. The Buddhists accuse the regime of repression and say they will use all means, including hunger strikes, if needed. Thich Nhat Thien cites arrest of students and police actions as evidence of oppression. The move follows the Christmas Eve bombing of a hotel housing U.S. officers and aims to ward off further protests as political tensions rise.
