Turkey shoot set near Moulton Road this Saturday morning
An all day turkey shoot is scheduled Saturday beginning at 9 30 a m at Harold Black s place eight miles out on the old Moulton Rd across from J W Baker s Grocery Store. The fire department reports a couch fire at 1003 8th Ave SE at 2 29 this morning causing light damage.

Double Turncoat Formally Jailed
Dr Otto John was formally arrested by West German authorities on suspected treason charges. He had been in voluntary detention since returning from East Germany on December 12. Federal Prosecutor Wiechmann said investigators must decide if John shared state secrets with the Communists and indicated further charges may follow.

Five Alabamians Die In Traffic
Five persons died Thursday from injuries suffered in Alabama traffic accidents. Emory Lee Smith aged 18 was killed near Oneonta when a car struck a concrete road guard. Thomas M R Miller 25 of Altoona Rt. 1 was the driver and died in the crash with a gravel truck. William Jessie Markem 24 of Lynn died in a collision between his car and the gravel truck between Lynn and Natural Bridge in Winston County. Mrs Adelia Hadley 36 of McCullough was fatally injured in the same incidents.

Bank Robbers Hold Fisk Employees In Vault After $35000 Heist
Two armed men robbed the Bank of Fisk in Missouri of about $35,000 yesterday and yelled Merry Christmas as they locked three employees in a vault. The suspects fled in a bank employee’s car, then switched to a second vehicle. The workers freed themselves after 40 minutes.

Gale driven storms lashed northern California feeding rivers that have torn five villages on the Eel and Klamath rivers into rubble. Evacuations by boat were common as waters rose.
