Beloved Man James W Thornton Dies After Illness
James W. Thornton 74 died at 5 30 Sunday morning at 317 Johnston street after years of illness. He suffered a heart attack Saturday and never recovered. Funeral services were held at 4 o clock Sunday at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Knoxville after rites conducted by Rev William Bartlett. He is survived by his widow Mrs Bell Frew Thornton and two brothers Thomas C of Knoxville and John A Thornton of Pittsburgh. He lived in Decatur over 30 years and retired from the jewelry business eight years ago. He was active in W O W and I O O F lodges and was a longtime deacon at Westminster.
