A 50 year old grandmother Kathleen King Venice California faces a kidnapping warrant in Coalinga California after allegedly taking her four grandchildren ages six to twelve by chartered plane on a Christmas shopping trip. The children’s father Zoel Lynch filed the complaint. custody had been with him since a 1946 divorce.
Final count shows 1,330,820 votes for the blockaded Berliners protest against Soviet occupation. Central election bureau reports 86.2 percent turnout in the three Western sectors for the city elections as the Communists boycott. Social democrats win with about 64.5 percent. Christian democrats and liberal democrats follow.
Three Decatur students and a faculty supervisor attended a Birmingham meeting of the state unit of the Future Teachers of America. They were assigned to draft a state FTA constitution for presentation at the state convention next March. The group included Mrs. W. T. Jordan and students Mary Ann Blackwell Irma Black and Fennell Garnett.
The Vero Anders murder trial was postponed to Wednesday due to the defendant's illness after a tonsillectomy at Falkville clinic. Also in session, Leon Evans faces carnal knowledge charges involving a 15 year old girl. Evans trial today is closed to the public. Louis Dutton and Gerald G. Jackson, both 15, pleaded guilty to burglary and seek probation with a December 17 hearing. John Sherrill represents Evans. Circuit Solicitors Johnson and Shanks lead the prosecution. Judge Crow presides.
Three Alabama residents died from injuries in traffic accidents this weekend AP reports. A southbound Greyhound bus left Highway 31 on Lacon mountain during heavy rain and landed in a ditch. Passengers were transported from Cullman by a McCoy bus after a wrecker from Birmingham could be arranged.

The United Nations assembly voted to adjourn its Paris session on the night of December 11 to 12 and reconvene in New York on April 1, 1949. The vote overrode the steering committee’s February reconvening suggestion and included 21 votes for recess, 16 against, with 21 abstentions.
German electors in three Allied sectors were eligible in the first postwar vote under American British and French administration. Russians blocked voting in their sector while Western Berliners faced communist intimidation as they cast ballots.
Construction begins on a new concrete block and brick theatre on West Vine Street by the Elite Amusement company. The 35 by 100 foot venue will feature air conditioning and a stage for vaudeville and concerts, with an official name to be announced. U S estimates show military aid to China under one third of that sent to Greece and Turkey under the Truman doctrine. About 63 million in fighting gear has gone to Chiang Kai-shek's forces in 18 months, versus 230 million to Greece and Turkey. Madame Chiang seeks more aid, proposing about 1 million a year for three years, a jump from earlier funding.
Carl Schwachow announces Decatur High School will present a joint concert by the band and glee club on Tuesday night December 14 at River Auditorium. About 125 students, 75 band members and 50 glee club members, will perform a program of Christmas music. Proceeds go to the music department. students will sell tickets.
Willie Kirk, a Black man, was treated at Decatur General Hospital for a back wound. Paul Anderson, another Black man, was held in city jail after reportedly admitting to shooting Kirk with a levee shotgun on Short Alabama Street. Chief Whitmire said motive is not disclosed and charges pending further inquiry.
Rescue efforts continue after an Air Force C-54 force landed at sea with 37 aboard near Johnston Island. Survivors sighted as planes rush to reach the site while other crashes report ten dead at Kiangwan Shanghai and six Navy personnel among California wreckage.
Chinese communist radio claimed an air tight encirclement of the Suchow garrison, about 110 000 troops, as the battle for Nanking intensified. The Suchow forces reportedly abandoned the city to try reaching the trapped government units 45 miles south.
In Gadsden Alabama Sheriff Ira C Ballard rejected a United Automobile Workers local bond for Ed Drummer held on grand larceny charges. The union signed a $1,000 bond but lacks local property in Etowah county. Drummer, accused of stealing about $1500 from Ida Cole, his aunt, faces trial next week.
The U S Supreme Court, by a 5 4 vote, granted a high court hearing to two Japanese wartime officials General Kenji Dohi h ara and Koki Hirota sentenced to death. Justice Jackson wrote the opinion and noted the split with Chief Justice Vinson and Justices Reed Frankfurter and Burton.
Police say two African American boys aged 10 and 11 admitted stealing from Auto Electric Supply after back window entry on Saturday night. About $150 total and $0.54 recovered. Anna Pearl Johnson held on $35 charge. boys to appear in juvenile court.
In Lancaster Pennsylvania Dr Herbert H Beck observer at Mount Jackson sanctuary reports spotting a bald eagle with a white body and a dark V mark along the back. He notes the bird differs from the usual dark brown eagle and appears unmistakably an eagle as described.
A. W. Jones AP Extension Service urges raising base cotton price quotations from middling 15/16 inch to middling 11/32 inch or longer. He notes Alabama markets show most bales have longer staples than the current base and that the loan premium for 11/32 inch over 15/16 inch is $6 per bale. He warns many farmers are unfamiliar with staple classifications.
Through November 13 Alabama gained 1 042 000 bales with 92 percent longer than 5 16 inches. If this trend continues the premium on longer staples could top 6 million dollars in the state this year. Farmers should ensure correct fiber classification to receive benefits from the ongoing cotton improvement program.

Funeral services for W F Parks 58 Decatur merchant will be Tuesday at Central Methodist Church following a morning death at Hamil clinic after a 10 day stay. Surviving: widow two sons a grandson mother brother and four sisters. Interment Roselawn cemetery with Brown’s directing. Reverend G M Davenport to officiate.
