Woman shoots veterinarian then commits suicide in Carrollton
A 56 year old Alabama Polytechnical Institute housemother, Mrs N C Peddy, shot Dr E J Carlson 25 in his Auburn Alabama ties office then killed herself. A coroner's jury returned verdicts of attempted murder and death by own action. Sheriff Kilgore said motive could not be determined though Mrs Peddy was said to suffer periods of low mood.

New School in Danville Opens for Fall Term
After five years in temporary quarters, Danville students returned to a modern concrete block school. The building includes 12 classrooms an auditorium a lunch room library and auxiliary rooms replacing the CCC barracks and vocational block used since 1943. Construction began March 1947 with fire resistant features and tar and gravel roof to minimize fire risk.

Takes Own Life With Shotgun In Cullman
Miss Etha Mae Singleton a 54 year old Cullman resident fatally shot herself with a 12 gauge shotgun on a front porch at a brother s residence late Sunday. Coroner Grady Moss ruled death by own action. Funeral services set for Tuesday at Fellowship church with interment in church cemetery. She is survived by two sons J D Singleton and Tom Singleton.

Truck Crash Kills Negro Man Near Hartselle
Jeff Weedon 35, of Bluff City died Sunday at Decatur General from injuries after a car struck a parked pickup near Alabama 33 east of Hart sel le. Three others injured were inside or near the vehicles. Patrolman Jones and others investigated the crash and listed the injured, with Patterson stating he did not see the parked truck in time to stop.

Alabamian Dies When Yacht Is Swamped by Heavy Seas
