Montgomery August 15. The Alabama Public Service Commission approved a $3,307,509-a-year rate increase for Southern Bell Telephone Co to raise its rate of return on net investment in the state from 3.74 percent to 6.66 percent. Kentucky Man Is Sentenced For Forgery and Larceny
J. E. Herring, 32, pleaded guilty to seven counts of forgery and one grand larceny in a hearing before Judge Newton B. Powell. He received a year and a day for each offense and remains in the county jail awaiting transport to Kilby prison. He is charged with auto theft after being apprehended in Richmond Illinois. He allegedly stole a car in Hartselle and drove it through Kentucky Indiana to Illinois before arrest.

Confessed Slayer Faces Trial Amid Angry Mob at Jail
Curtis Shedd of Valhalla South Carolina, a confessed triple-slayer, was turned over to North Carolina authorities after a day of killings sparked a mob of about 4000 at the jail. He allegedly shot John Boyter near Clayton Georgia and later killed Boyter’s two daughters near Highlands North Carolina. Mrs Boyter was held for questioning and released.

Lad's Story Of Robbery Probed At Athens Hotel
A 16 year old Athens youth accused of burglarizing a traveling salesman’s hotel room implicated two National Guardsmen. He said he threw part of the money down a fire escape to them before escaping. The intruder, later questioned, may face a grand larceny charge.

Four Killed In B 29 Crash Near Fort Worth
Four crewmen died when a crippled B-29 bomber from Barksdale Air Force Base crashed in a field near Fort Worth Texas yesterday afternoon. Eight others escaped with minor injuries as the plane struck near Carswell Air Force Base. The four engine bomber burned, skidding for about a half mile before stopping. Three bodies were found in the nose section and one in the center section. See FOUR on Page 2.

Foe Bursts From River Pocket Toward Taegu
Red troops with tanks burst onto the Naktong defense line below Changnyong and moved seven miles east of the river. They overran parts of the U S 24th infantry in bitter fighting with mounting casualties. MacArthur’s Tokyo headquarters said there was no change in the South Korean situation. Taegu remained the emergency capital with 60,000 Reds massed near Waegwan. Allied air support reportedly knocked out some Red armored cars during a river crossing near Waegwan.

Three members of a Pontiac family died when their light plane crashed in fog near Fayetteville Tennessee Monday morning. Victims: Ralph Johnson, his wife, and their 6 year old daughter Sandra.
