Hospital Fund Is Asked Here
Decatur General hospital seeks an extra 10000 to cover current expenses as use of the facility declines nationally. Hospital board chairman Raymond A. Britain told a joint Morgan Board of Revenue and Control and Decatur City Council meeting that for 1950 a county city appropriation of 20000 is needed, double the 1949 allotment. He noted 17 patients currently in the 89 bed hospital and said at least 50 patients are needed to be financially feasible. The board is cutting costs where possible, with food as the sole area for savings, and charity work totaling 6100 this year while 6200 in bad debts remains. Patient days dropped from 1100 in May to 846 in July. To cover February and March expenses the board borrowed 10000. Alderman Rutledge Thomas suggested using part of a one mill hospital tax, estimated to produce about 20000 yearly, to meet expenses. See HOSPITAL on Page 2.
