Cambridge Methodist Church in Limestone County Century Old Camp Meetings
The Cambridge Methodist church in French's Mill Limestone County is the county’s oldest Methodist church and among North Alabama’s oldest. It began with 1818 land grant by George Malone and a 1832 deed creating the damp ground and fencing obligations. Camps, forests, cabins and open air revivals drew visitors from North Alabama and Southern Tennessee, with Union soldiers using the site during the Civil War era. The original pegged windows remain, and local lore notes Cambridge once nearly became Limestone’s county seat under Thomas Bibb.
