School Placement Bill Becomes Law in Alabama
A bill preserving segregation in public schools became law in Alabama last night without Gov. Folsom's signature as no veto arrived before the Legislature recessed. The measure grants city and county boards power to assign pupils to schools to maintain social order and welfare. Sponsored by Sen. Sam Engelhardt of Maton County, the law automatically took effect.

Decatur carpenter Electrocuted on Rest Home Roof
A middle aged Decatur man, Albert T. Bolin of 204 4th Ave N W, died at about 8 45 AM after contact with 7200 volt lines while carpentry work on the Colonial Rest Home roof, eight miles west of Decatur. Eyewitness Bill Sherrill described Bolin climbing near the wires and his face catching the upper strand as Bolin fell to the ground, burning his face and legs. Bolin, employed by Railway Express, was one of two men hired by Mrs Earl Sherrill to work on the roof. the other was Sherrill’s witness. The body dropped about 18 feet. the scene included several plumbers on the opposite side of the building. See LOCAL on Page 2.
