Louis Budenz former communist editor and Fordham professor testified before a senate committee that Hollywood supplied large funds to the communist party aiming at U.S. Russian dominance. He identified Elizabeth Bentley as a Soviet spy and courier who named many wartime officials. Budenz said Bentley was a trusted Moscow agent linked to Jacob Golos and that he helped connect Soviet agents with Trotsky associates.
Ohio Governor Herbert and Mayor Lohrey vow guard troops if Unovisions resumes operations amid a 90 day strike. CIO UE Local 768 members reject a leadership settlement as 200 pickets gather at the plant entrance and police clash with strikers.
Diplomatic teams from the United States Britain and France entered the Kremlin in Moscow for talks with Prime Minister Stalin as Western powers seek a basis to ease East West tensions. In Birmingham two men died from injuries from separate crashes. Charles Cecil Gore, 32, of Birmingham, died of injuries from a Saturday night collision of two trucks. he was the city’s 24th traffic fatality this year. Robert Lindsey Stagner, 21, of Shannon, died after his motorcycle left the Birmingham Bessemer highway near here yesterday.
The 30 year old wife of a chemical company worker in Akron Ohio gave birth to her third set of twins in 27 months. The Summers family lives in Doylbestown.
Mississippi Democrats reconvene in Jackson to decide whether to list Thurmond Wright on the November ballot or keep an unpledged slate. The meeting aims to approve delegates’ actions from Philadelphia, set the presidential slate, and address ballot listing amid the states rights platform.
Florence resident Ralph Cozzalino, 24, is jailed in Madison County after his Nashville arrest Saturday night in connection with several Decatur robbery charges. He identified Bob Harrison first during questioning and admitted to visiting the Hill store at Huntsville, which had been robbed earlier, as part of the investigation.

Mrs Golda Meirson says she will visit Moscow and expects the Soviet ambassador to Israel to arrive in Tel Aviv within two weeks.
Tennessee’s Democratic primary neared its climax as voters prepared to cast ballots Thursday. The race includes for U S senator Tom Stewart Estes Kefauver and John A Mitchell, with Governor contenders Jim McCord Crump backing and past splits noted. Vote turnout could top 400000, a Tennessee primary record.
Virgil Wimberly faced a first degree murder indictment in Morgan circuit court for the December 30 1947 killing of A H Norris at the County Line store. Defense attorney H H Hamilton argued Wimberly was not part of any robbery plot and had no motive beyond illness and injury. The state planned to prove Wimberly involved in a conspiracy to rob Norris with witnesses and jurors for related Campbell case excused until Wednesday. Judge Newton B Powell presiding with Solicitor Philip Shanks assisting.
Two typhoid patients in Cullman hospital are reported doing all right and one in Decatur General is to be dismissed today. Tests by the Decatur branch laboratory showed positive results for typhoid. Lorene Loyd in Decatur General is tentatively checked, while doctor in charge says no confirmed cases in Cullman county.
The United States eighth army military commission hears charges against 16 Japanese including two former lieutenant generals for the December 1944 Palawan massacre. Prosecutors call the act one of the most dastardly deeds by so called civilized men, as 138 Americans were killed or fatally harmed during guards violent killings and shelters gas and flame attacks.
Warships and planes comb the South Atlantic for a 73 ton six engined French flying boat with 52 aboard. Last contact 1200 miles off Dakar after midnight Saturday. No Americans aboard. SOS reports unconfirmed. Coast Guard and French ships and aircraft search the area off East Africa.
A bold unmasked robber forced a gun to the back of Simon Goldstein as he opened his Ensley department store and escaped with cash from the safe. Police reported the loot in the thousands and the incident occurred this morning in Birmingham.
In Washington a ruling by Senator Vandenberg against a GOP bid to cut off debate on the anti poll tax bill sparked continued Southern opposition. Senator Taft appealed to the full Senate but the appeal is debatable while Senator Robertson pressed on with talks against the bill.
