A Clover Leaf freight wreck near Kirkpatrick on a Wednesday morning toppled seven gasoline oil cars and two lumber cars, igniting a massive blaze. The fire engulfed Farmers Elevator, a blacksmith shop, homes, and the Clover Leaf depot within an hour, drawing help from Linden Clarks Hall and West Lafayette, while ten water-filled cars were sent from Frankfort. No serious injuries reported despite numerous onlookers and detoured trains through the town.

A meeting at the Lh ary Tuesday morning organized a Red Cross Fund drive in Darlington with a $1000 goal. Dumont Peck and Harry Fine of Crawfordsville helped form ten captains led by Royal B. Cox, with Bert Brainard as secretary. By Wednesday $400 was listed, rising to $700 by night. A final push was planned for Thursday and Friday seeking more than the quota. The largest gift so far is $30 from Lock Harlan. A full donor list will appear next week.

Darlington youths form a drill company after an all hands meeting at the town hall with eighteen men reporting. Led by Heck Hamilton and Joe Cain the unit organized into two squads and began basic drill steps. Officials anticipate about a hundred local men of military age may join. further auditions are set for 7 30 pm at the town hall with weekly practice on Tuesday and Friday nights and possible gymnasium use.

Death of Mrs. Henderson After Long Illness
Mrs. Henderson 84 died at home after eighteen months of illness from paralysis and related complications. Formerly near Shannondale, she moved to Darlington after her husband’s death and lived alone in Darlington. Survived by three sons Andy Franklin Willard Indianapolis Emmett Kirkpatrick and a daughter Lizzie Hawkins Gridley. Funeral in East Christian church with Rev. Auto accident injures five on Mechanicsburg trip
Last Sunday near Pikes crossing a Ford overturned twice down an embankment injuring Virgil and Chester Singleton of Mechanicsburg and Misses Madge and Nellie Izzard of Bowers. Madge Izzard drove the car suffering a broken leg a severe leg cut and a back wrench. Nellie Izzard was briefly unconscious. Virgil Singleton had three broken ribs and internal injuries. Chester Singleton had a badly bruised right leg.
