Mahala T. Seward 84 former Danville resident died Friday in Richmond. She managed Buddy- Dale Hat Shop and taught at Rivermont Baptist Church. Survived by daughter Meador stepdaughter Messer son Fouls and nine grandchildren. Funeral Sunday 11 a.m. at Wrenn-Yeatts Chapel. Interment Highland Burial Park. Pearl Evans 80 died Friday at Roman Eagle Nursing Home. Funeral Monday 2 p.m. at Lee Street Baptist Church. Burial Oak Ridge Cemetery South Boston. Surviving daughters Doss Talley Boswell and Boswell four sons Smith Smith Jr. and others ten grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Graveside rites Tuesday 3 a.m. Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Funeral home Barker Funeral Home. Family will receive visitors Monday 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Irma S. Burks died early Saturday in Memorial Hospital after about a year of declining health. Born Feb 16 1918 in Danville she was daughter of Minnie Davis Smith and the late John S. Smith. She lived in Pittsylvania County past 20 years and was a member of Arlington Baptist Church. Survived by husband Herman M. Burks a daughter Mrs. Paul Gill Sr. a son Barry G. Burks two brothers and two grandchildren. Services Monday at 11 from Swicegood Funeral Chapel with interment in Danville Memorial Gardens. The remains are at Swicegood Funeral Home with visitation 7:30–9 this evening.

Dora Baroody Hagar of 1711 North Main Street died Friday in Memorial Hospital after a yearlong decline. Funeral services were conducted Saturday by Rev. Robert Heard with interment in Highland Burial Park. She was born July 11, 1903 in Lebanon and moved to Danville as an infant. Survived by daughter Mrs George Shields Jr and son Robert S Hagar of Danville, two brothers Ted A Baroody and M Arthur Baroody, three sisters Evelyn Baroody Rosa Ganim and Virginia Samra, and six grandchildren.
M R Dunn age 66 a native of Columbia Missouri died Friday night in Memorial Hospital after a yearlong health decline. He lived in Danville ten years worked as a supervisor for Dan River Inc. Survived by wife Edith Talley Dunn a daughter Martha Jo Hodges two sons Howard and Russell Dunn Jr., two sisters and a brother. Funeral services set for 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church with Rev H Rand Arrington officiating. Interment Mountain View Cemetery. Body at Townes Funeral Home. Family to gather at residence.
Edgar H. Freeman 71 of Richmond died Friday afternoon in a Richmond hospital after a period of declining health. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church conducted by Elder Harold Kaufmann. The body lay in state at Swicegood Funeral Home. The family resided at the home of his sister in law Mrs Cordie B White 1478 Claiborne Street.
John Mark Andrews 77 of Route 1 Gretna died Saturday in Memorial Hospital of Danville. He was a Pittsylvania County native, widower of Mattie Reynolds Andrews, retired farmer, and Zion United Methodist Church member. Survived by five sons, three daughters, two sisters, 19 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral Monday 2 p.m. at Zion United Methodist Church, burial Andrews family cemetery. Body at Colbert Moran Gretna residence. Police report a quiet pre Christmas in Danville with usual drunk driving arrests.
