Sioux City Journal notes include Mrs. T. W. Gribble of Dakota City Neb visiting Sioux City, Miss Fannie Wilbur undergoing surgery at Samaritan Hospital, and Mrs. O Garfield Jones planning a summer in St Paris Ohio. Gov. Harding criticized over state defense council appointments by Carl F Kuehnle in a Red Cross meeting at Dakota City.
Parnell Byrne died unexpectedly after an accident forenoon of the day. The priest administered the Sacraments and he passed away at about 7 p.m. He was 82, born near Fonda, and married to Mary Finnegan in 1909. Survived by wife and two children, Francis and Clare. Burial at Mt. Calvary cemetery in Sioux City. Relatives joining from distance included Mrs. M. D. Clancey, Mrs. Sylvester Kruchten, and Mrs. Lizzie Kruchten of Pomery. brothers Thomas of Edgely North Dakota and James of Montana. sisters Katie of Los Angeles and Mrs. Maggie Hickey of Jackson Nebraska. May his soul rest in peace.
Will Hartnett of Jackson Nebraska offered fed yearlings at a market price near thirteen dollars, while Coroner Elmer Blood and Chief Harve Hawman planned a Missouri river death investigation for William Bishop whose body was found by national guardsmen at the high bridge after a wedding party dispute. Detected leads tie Bishop to a post party altercation at 311 South Wall Street during a double wedding celebration on May 26 in Dakota City. Frank Giese of Dakota City entered St Vincent's hospital for an operation.
County Agent notes strong sweet clover success as a pasture crop. Canning demonstrations planned across the county. gardeners urged to plant vegetables and consider sweet corn beans cabbage tomatoes for canning. Farmers advised to breed sows for fall litters and to market winter wheat seed. Mr. F. E. L. Rhoades notes improved labor supply in Nebraska and Sioux City.
A large crowd gathered at the courthouse in Dakota City for a Red Cross rally led by Hon. Carl F. Kuehnle of Denison Iowa. Contributions totaled 43.75 dollars, added to the national drive toward a 100 million dollar fund for the organization.
F J Alcock Scout Master announces next Monday July 2 scouts depart for Crystal Lake camp. Parents should provide bedding and a change of clothes. Donations of bread eggs potatoes and other necessities are sought to support the food supply. Each boy to pay 1 per week for expenses. A Friday night meeting at 5 p m to register and list food and cooking utensils. Gifts may be given to Ed Frederick before he leaves on his mail route and he will meet the patrol at the lake each morning.
Bargain sale to close estate of Mrs W H Markley Administratrix Hartington Nebr parcel lies 4 miles north of Willis 6 miles west of Jackson Nebr. sale features farm property and assets enlisted by the administratrix with terms and conditions to be announced.
The Lincoln Rotary Club funded about 150 dollars for the first community drying plant in Nebraska, operated with the Agricultural Extension Service. Fifty seven families use the drier at a church site, drying 120 trays daily as electricity costs 14 cents per hour.

The ad promotes Mound City Paint and Varnish at Neiswanger Pharmacy.
