Alcoholism Rate Rising in Alameda County Area
Alameda County officials and social welfare workers gathered at Pacific High School in San Leandro to present data showing 37,000 alcoholics in Alameda County and 13,000 in Contra Costa County. Dr. Joel Fort of Alameda County Center for Treatment and Education on Alcoholism led the daylong conference urging stricter beer advertising controls, public education for hosts and servers, fewer retail outlets, longer hours restrictions, expanded hospital treatment, and broader health insurance coverage.

AC Transit launches Summer Fun Pass for Sundays and holidays
AC Transit will sell a three month Summer Fun Pass valid on Sundays and holidays. The pass covers unlimited rides from 4 am issue day to 4 am next day on all lines except Transbay trips between the Bay Area and San Francisco. Passes cost 0 cents and can be bought at the Transit cashier’s office in Oakland.

Conviction Upheld On Drug Assn
In San Francisco the Ninth Circuit upheld the conviction of the Northern California Pharmaceutical Association for conspiring to fix retail drug prices. Donald K. Hedgpeth, former association president, was also upheld in his conviction. the court rejected the claim professionals escape Sherman Act liability.
