Hayward police install closed circuit cameras to monitor one jail cell and the back door at night. Lieutenants oversee two sets from their desks to watch inmates at risk of self harm and those entering the jail while stressing privacy and limited coverage.
Judge Lionel Wilson presided citizenship ceremonies for twenty three residents in Alameda County Superior Court. Recipients include John Edward Fahiman of Hayward and Elizabeth Martin Jessiman of San Lorenzo among others. new Canadians, Portuguese, Japanese and Salvadoran names appear with addresses across Hayward San Lorenzo San Leandro Tremont Union City and Dublin.
Livermore youth William Gruhlke received the Chairman's Commendation Award from the Oakland Chapter of the American Red Cross for rescuing a drowning fisherman near Santa Cruz on March 6. The Cabrillo Junior College student and Livermore lifeguard also earned senior life saver status from the Livermore Park and Recreation District. Presentation was made by Walter Brown at the Livermore city offices with Mayor Milo Nordyke present.
A discussion of next year's Hayward Las Vegas Air Race is scheduled for Monday night at the Hayward Airport Commission meeting. Leigh Fisher Skywest developer will report on airport development, and Frank Whitcomb airport manager will report on proposed state aviation legislation. The meeting begins at 8 p.m. in city hall.
