Santa Rita accelerator decision haunts county plans
In Pleasanton and San Leandro discussions, Santa Rita’s future hinges on locating an atom smasher at Camp Parks while the county seeks 200 acres for expansion. If the accelerator goes to the Valley site, Santa Rita would relocate within five to eight years with a multi-thousand inmate rehabilitation plan requiring 600 acres. San Leandro reports strong youth employment outcomes with 63 students hired this summer and ongoing upgrades to medical screening for public workers.
