Strike hits C and H Sugar Plant in Crockett
About 3200 workers at the California and Hawaiian Sugar plant in Crockett walked off the job after the AFL Sugar Refinery Workers union failed to secure wage and benefit demands. A company spokesman said operations would not resume during the walkout, and the union cited disputes over a joint trusteeship pension plan and holiday inclusions. Union leaders reported no further joint talks scheduled, while extra longshoremen pledged not to cross the picket line.
