Reports cite 40 mph gusts along the coast, a 14 inch snow swath on the Olympic Peninsula, 7 inch snowfall at Hood, Oregon, and high winds up to 126 mph at Cape St. James BC. At Children’s Hospital San Francisco and Highland Hospital the Infantile Paralysis Foundation aided his care with $156.38 for treatment. The boy’s daily exercises aim to restore movement. full eye closure may take years. His mother, also a polio survivor, recalls Shriner and March of Dimes support aiding five new local polio cases and $1,508.56 in district donations last year.

In Oakland a 25 year old Nowata Oklahoma woman Billie Jean Ward led a four member robbery gang, packing a pistol in her panties and claiming bravado as “Little Dynamite.” The quartet seized $65 and a bottle of muscatel from a liquor store before a patrol stopped their getaway. Police recovered the gun. Ward and two female accomplices, Dorothy Roth and Yvonne Reed, wait in city jail while co-conspirator George Fults, 20, fled. All blamed the failed caper on too much muscatel and not enough money.
