A Hayward woman, Mrs Frances J. Silva, 438 B Street, died after being struck by a car driven by 28 year old Fd Ward A Vargas of 1275 Bartlett Avenue while she crossed in a crosswalk on A Street near Princeton Street. Police said Vargas was eastbound and not cited. The accident occurred about 6:20 PM. Silva was taken to Fairmont Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival.
Salvation Army reorganized its board at a Thursday night dinner meeting at the LDS chapel in Oakland. New officers include AC Carter as head for 1980, with vice chair Inge Sorensen and other appointees among Mrs Eulatla Anderson, Mrs Clarence Johnson, and Rev Myron Herrall, amid remarks on army activities and rehabilitation work.
Berkeley California University of California trains twenty eight military experts in defense against radiological warfare over two years. Darrell Wy Walick, 25, of Hayward, was sentenced to 100 days in Santa Clara County jail after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor related to the manslaughter death of Franken Pearce, 34, of Hayward, in a crash at Stevens Creek Road and Sunnyvale Saratoga Road on December 22. Police say Walick ran a stop sign and struck a heavy concrete truck, killing Pearce who was a passenger in Walick’s car.

Mrs P M Foster of 1051 Jackson Street has given the University of California a substantial portion of the library of her late husband Dr Frederick M Foster. The gifts and pledges total 440202 dollars and 3 cents. The bequest, mainly Greek and Latin works, follows Dr Foster’s death.
