Navy crews reported the battleship USS Missouri free from entangling mud in Impfon Roads off Norfolk after January 17. Tugboats and two salvage ships aided as thousands cheered when the ship finally moved and freed the bow, marking a moment of relief for personnel.
In Norfolk a 45 000 ton battleship named Missouri was freed from a sand bar after 16 days of entrapment as powerful salvage teams and tugboats moved the ship toward deeper water. President Truman and House committee head Vinson weighed options as repairs moved to the yard.
Area parents toured the Ashland Avenue site for the newly approved San Lorenzo Cooperative Nursery School. Fathers offered commitments to enroll, supply materials and labor, and improve the building while work groups organized tasks for shelves safety features and play areas. Mothers aged 24 to 44 joined in planning and wait for a meeting February 6 to discuss operation under a qualified teacher and school readiness in February.

David Allen, William BF, Sulli Yvan and Carroll A. Rogers joined the San Loronzo Village Homes Association board after the retirement of John S. Mc Neal and William Pop Rive. Sanford managed the installation as the new directors began their terms, echoing January 1949 when Orvis Nelson again took post and nominated Marvin Rich.

At least three Stay ward area chamber members will travel to Santa Clara tomorrow for a workshop on securing new industrial developments for the city. The University of Santa Clara sponsors a conference of officials from northern California cities seeking methods to attract industry. Attending from Hayward are Cyril Rache Fred Cox and Re ger Andersen.
John S. McNeal and William Rice were honored at the San Lorenzo Village Homes Association meeting for four and two years of service respectively. Rice noted a $20,000 debt paid, a $16,000 tire bench paid, and funds set for a $16,000 maintenance building and center additions, while McNeal recalled early days and praised former members and Walt Baumann for securing a $20,000 loan helping the association stay solvent.
San Lorenzo Village Homes Association leaders from the SLV Board of Directors endorsed a 100 dollar contribution to publicize the $00,000 San Lorenzo school bond issue and a 190 dollar match for publicity. Robert A. Stoner, vice principal of David D. Bohannon school, urged homeowners to support the measure to qualify the district for state aid and funds for new classrooms as enrollment climbs. SACRAMENTO California Republican Warren announced a bid for an unprecedented third term as governor. He said he would seek both Republican and Democratic nominations, stressing social progress without embracing socialism, and aimed to complete ongoing work amid California’s growth. Warren has broken precedents by winning both party nominations in 1946 and has long held top state offices, including attorney general.
Alameda county planning commission delayed a decision on West Coast Meat Company's request to expand its Madison Avenue slaughterhouse. The meeting focused on opposition from Castro Valley residents who cite traffic, noise, odors, and property devaluation. The board agreed to reconvene in Oakland Friday at 2 p.m. for further testimony and consideration, with supervisors weighing zoning changes and an incorporation move in Castro Valley.
