Pay Board Chief Sees Inflation Goal Within Reach
Washington (UPI) The Pay Board chairman George H. Boldt said the administration can restore its target of 3 to 8 percent annual inflation by year end 1972. He told reporters the board has overcome organizational problems and is on track to control inflation. The board acted to limit wage increase exceptions to its 5 percent guideline, allowing up to 7 percent under certain conditions. Boldt expressed confidence the inflation target could be met, while staff noted a retroactivity dispute over pay for 11,500 railroad signalmen after an approval on Dec 9 for a contract with a 5 percent wage increase starting Oct 1.
