Underwater venture turns up fatal mishap

An 18 year old Sacramento student, Stan Montgomery, drowned while testing a portable air system for a homemade skind underwater submarine project at Folsom Lake. The accident occurred as he and another youth were checking anchor setup below water during preparations for an 18 hour shift living underwater for a study on physiological and psychological effects. Montgomery disappeared beneath the surface and was later recovered by Steve White and Bob Fennessy after a struggle in wetsuits and tanks.
