Unknown millionaire enters California governor race

SACRAMENTO AP Reports William Matsa Roth, a 36 year old multimillionaire, announced he will run for California governor. He plans to spend at least half of 250000 on his campaign through January, touring the state and challenging incumbents amid Watergate era cynicism. Roth, a San Francisco civic figure and UC regent candidate, frames his bid as returning government to the people against corporate and political power.

Pesticide safeguards move in Assembly in Sacramento

A bill AB2546 by Assemblyman Raymond Seeley cleared the Natural Resources Committee on a 6-0 vote and goes to Ways and Means. It lets the state food and agriculture director or county commissioners ban harvesting produce contaminated by pesticides. January saw about 8 000 cases of Monitor 4 lettuce reach markets before quarantine and destruction. An agricultural commissioner tried to halt the harvest but two grocers did not comply.
