Old Age Bonds and House Battle Over 20000 Property Dispute
In a district court filing Fred Scheuer sues wife Isabella to recover $20,000 in property he says she holds in trust and refuses to reconvey. He claims May 1896 bank attachment, a $3,000 mortgage with her involvement, and a subsequent transfer to Edwards Gay before property returned to Isabella. He says he lost his home and now relies on friends. Additional filings include divorce suit by Clinton Kerr against Josephine Kerr, and notices of judgments against Frank H. Cooney as administrator for Charles Carleton, plus other debt actions and a habeas corpus case for attorney James J. Watson. Public business notes report 125 lawyers in town, with only a small fraction licensed, and a county effort to compel delinquent professionals to obtain licenses amid a broader license-enforcement campaign.
