Business Friendships and Home Trade Alliances
The piece argues that business and friendship should mix through home town trade. Buying locally fosters business friendships that support favors, better relations with officials, and goodwill. Local suppliers return value beyond price, while distant firms offer only polite smiles.
The Value of Local Trade Relationships
A close relation between buyer and seller reduces risk and improves service. Local stores reward regular customers with attentive, informed help, while distant purchases risk impersonal treatment and potential misrepresentation.
Cameramen survive five hour battle with sea off Balboa
Arthur Edeson chief cameraman for Douglas Fairbanks and assistant Richard Holohan fought a five hour deathly surf off Abalone Point nine miles below Balboa California to retake a scene for Douglas Fairbanks in Robin Hood. Their skiff nearly swamped and a launch rescued them. $3,000 worth of gear damaged and film spoiled. A boatman collapsed and the crew recovered a day later.
