Tokyo Jan 27 A set of resolutions urging Japan to seek international restriction on armament was submitted to the opposition by Yukio Ozaki an advocate of military and naval programs. He asks passage in the Japanese Diet. A conservative organ warned the majority of opposition members oppose it as impracticable.
Acting Treasurer Allen announced in Washington that the total cash and securities counted reached 13,883,819,826,362.3 dollars, boosted by deposits from foreign governments for war loans following John Burke’s resignation as treasurer.
Chicago Jan 27 United States railway labor board here today ordered rescission of wage cuts on the Atlanta Birmingham and Atlantic railroad which were to take effect February 1. The board ruled the companies did not present a petition before the board for any reduction in employees wages.
Washington January 27 1921 Wheat on hand in the United States totaled 320 000 900 bushels on January 1 1921 according to a department of agriculture estimate. This compares with 7 000 000 bushels on hand a year earlier.

Washington January 27 The agricultural appropriation bill carrying about 84 million dollars was passed by the House and now goes to the Senate.
Mrs Cathleen N Vanderbilt and Sidney Jones Coldford Jr obtained a marriage license in New York City today. Vanderbilt, 35, divorced from Reginald C Vanderbilt in 1919 for desertion, has custody of their daughter Cathleen. Coldford, also 35, was recently divorced in Rhode Island and has two minor daughters.
In Mount Pleasant on January 27 Winfield reports a shooting incident with no bloodshed. Claude Neal, a young farmer with military training, faked injury after a dispute with the city marshal led to the marshal firing. Neal dropped as if hit, then was found uninjured but is to have a preliminary hearing.
Paul Pry bil bound over to the grand jury on charges of failure to marry Miss Edna Humzing er after obtaining a license last week that was later cancelled.
Des Moines January 27 The Iowa Senate confirmed all appointments sent by Governor Kendall on January 25 with the exception of Mary H Snyder of Davenport whose board seat was postponed. Confirmed were Anna Lawther Dubuque and Ed Schoentgen for state board of education along with James A. and Chas A. Thomas, Preston, on education boards and Wilson Cornwall of Clay County on the parole board.
In Des Moines the Iowa Senate heard a resolution by Senator Bueser demanding a full report from the state highway commission detailing motor vehicle funds by county, amounts spent, remaining balances, and any potential overspending. No action was taken. Separately, House Introduces a Driver License bill to curb car theft with license cards and judge notes of dispositions. a third offense triggers license rework and severe penalties for joy riding.
Three automobile bandits held up messengers of the Drover National Bank in Kansas City Missouri and escaped with 95300 in non negotiable checks. The messengers were being driven in a taxicab to the clearing house downtown.
In Griswold Iowa on January 27 Charles Knoke soldered an empty gasoline tank when it exploded. The blast set fire to a paint store and repair shop causing about 3500 dollars in damage. Knoke was uninjured.
A preliminary agreement to amend the U S Japan commercial treaty would grant Japanese equal civil rights with citizens of other nations. Ambassadors Shidehara and Morris reached the understanding, reported in a Sacramento Bee dispatch from Washington.
In Clarinda Iowa on January 27 the family of C J Burch failed to have his will set aside. The jury ruled he was of sound mind when he made the will and that his final wishes should be followed. Several relatives were cut off and prominent lawyers argued the case to a packed courtroom.
A zinc ore deposit is reported on the H. H. Van farm three miles northwest of Griswold Iowa. Earl Willoughby of Atlantic is credited with the find and has leased 145 acres on the Van farm and a neighboring 166 acre tract. The prospect is described as seemingly limitless.
Howard Greene urged continued backing for the Truth in Fabric bill before Congress at the annual convention of the merchant tailors of America. He claimed labels will pressure shoddy manufacturers to cut prices, boosting competition and protecting the public from inferior fabrics.
Des Moines January 27. Lieutenant Governor Hammil halted further action on a resolution to raise Miss Mabel Elwood's pay from seven to nine dollars as house enrolling clerk. After a conference committee report favored the raise, the negative vote was deemed dead, delaying all legislative pay changes and suggesting the measure may have to be started anew.
Iowa plans to appeal to the state supreme court to block railroads from collecting a 3.6 cent per mile passenger rate. The move follows a conference with Attorney General Gibson and the house and senate railroad committees.
Today's markets show cattle receipts at 14 400 with steady beef steers and mixed declines across categories. Hog and sheep data indicate lower hogs and no early sheep sales, with grain futures in Chicago led by wheat and corn downturns and pork and fat futures higher.

Colby secretary of state returned to Washington from a seven weeks trip to South America where as the personal representative of President Wilson he visited Brazil and Uruguay officially and Argentina unofficially. He will report to the president this week and convey messages from the South American governments.
Coroner Kellogg said a newborn baby, only hours old, was found dead in a room at the Grand hotel in Clinton. A couple registered as Charles Baker and wife of Marion checked out about 30 minutes earlier, the coroner reported.
Red Oak Louisiana January 27 taxes mount in Montgomery county with a total levy of 562006 dollars, up 108000 from last year. The school tax leads at 583000 dollars and Villisea levy stands at 182 mills, Red Oak at 133 mills.
