Huntsville report confirms Joseph Jones of Merrimac withdrawal from hospital over a mule attack. Jones said a mule kicked him on the head, the animal suffered two broken legs and was shot as a hopeless cripple. Jones is expected to recover.
Mason City Iowa January 20 Forty deputies guarded the Jacob E Decker Sons Meat Packing plant as about 100 strikers packed the plant and made several attempts at violence. Fourteen new deputies, all former service men, were sworn in by Sheriff F E Marsh. Officials denied the militia call but acknowledged talks with the state adjutant at Des Moines.
Henry Kanke a 45 year old Iowa farmer was killed when his light plant exploded in a cave near Keota. The blast blew his body 420 feet, clothing torn and limbs mangled. His wife and nine children survive.

The First National Bank of College Springs in Clarinda Iowa was robbed overnight. A yeggman forced entry, dug into the vault through a brick wall, and stole safety deposit boxes with liberty bonds war savings stamps and valuables. The vault remained locked and the bank doors were left open when found.
Atlantic Iowa January 20 Cass county taxpayers must pay about 126000 more taxes in 1921 than in 1920. The tax budget exceeds 800000 with school purposes rising by 90000 to 368000. The general state revenue fund stands at 77009.

Ruby Lynn of Litchfield arrived in Springfield to take a typist position in the State Auditor Russel’s office. She quipped that she has "been kidded by experts" and later joined the Len Small campaign tour, addressing crowds in support of Small.

Springfield Illinois January 20 Present high prices of gravestones will remain unchanged for at least another year according to delegates at the Illinois Retail Monument Dealers convention. President A C Deano f Sycamore said that as many or more monuments will be sold as last year.

Six other schoolgirls who joined the party returned home from villages west of Detroit. The auto was found near Dearborn this morning. The girls said they do not know the youth's name or the elopers' destination.
Davenport officials charge Henry Schwenck socialist candidate for county treasurer with omitting 32000 in farm mortgages from the 1920 tax report. Schwenck allegedly filed 2000 in moneys and credits instead of 34000, according to County Auditor Joe Wagner.
Waterloo Iowa January 20 Mrs Mil ton V Beckner says in a divorce petition that three years of marriage brought many indignities. She cites a pe compliant incident when her husband summoned police to search the house for a male visitor but none was found and that proved the last straw.
Mrs Margaret Livingstone files for divorce from David Livingstone in Kenosha W I after accusing him of living with her sister Mrs Thyra Lund in Davenport Iowa. An earlier agreement required his return but he insisted on shared living with Mrs Lund.
An application for a writ of habeas corpus on behalf of Ernest Rathbun, a life term inmate at the state reformatory in Anamosa for alleged assault, was filed in Marion and set for hearing before Judge F. P. Dawley. The petition claims a pardon by former Governor Harding remains in effect, rendering imprisonment illegal.
Vigilance committees in Hyde Park disbanded after four youths confessed to more than 100 robberies. Fred Loomis, 18, said they worked six nights a week and sometimes abducted and robbed university students on campus escorts. Two more suspects are sought. The gang used threats and polite farewells, often giving car fare before leaving.

Burlington Iowa January 20 Frank J. Tracy proprietor of the Burlington Transfer Company and a member of a well known Burlington family died this morning from injuries suffered Tuesday night when his car plunged over a bluff. His neck was broken in the crash.

Des Moines Iowa January reports state lawmakers ready to begin redistricting once congress fixes representative count. Senate district committee chaired by Senator Greenell and House panel led by Representative Alsted set to act. Iowa may lose one seat, constitutional convention plans discussed for 1922 with nonpartisan nominations after June primary. A house bill proposes a fifty member constitutional convention and a June 1922 first Tuesday date.
