The airship Shenandoah broke in three portions near Ava and Sharon Noble county Ohio killing Commander Zachary Lansdowne and at least 14 crew. The craft battled a line squall after 5 am while en route from Lakehurst to the west, breaking apart as weather overwhelmed engines and pilots. Col. O G Hall and Lieut command ers Mayer and Anderson survived, while rescue efforts and guard duties followed in Belle Valley and nearby towns. The disaster prompted a large regional response and widespread fog of telegrams and news across Columbus and Belle Valley.
