Death of Queen Alexandra Marked by Silent London Rites

London observers described a somber procession from the chapel Royal to Westminster Abbey for Queen Alexandra’s funeral. Dignitaries from Belgium Norway Denmark and Romania attended as King George and Queen Mary led mourners through snow and somber music before the coffin was moved to Windsor for burial.

Vanderpluym Funeral Services Planned Sunday

Funeral services for Mrs. T. A. Vanderpluym who died Wednesday morning at Greater Community Hospital will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Christian church with Rev. H. H. Twyford officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery.

J. M. Philpott Dead at 83 in Creston Home

J M Philpott 83 longtime Creston resident died at 3 am after a heart attack at his son Frank Philpott's home on West Clark street. His wife died in 1924. Funeral services set for 1 pm Sunday at the Adventist church on North Oak street conducted by Elder Scriven of Nevada Iowa. Burial in Morgan cemetery near Kent.

Boies and Cummins plan gain support for farm relief

In Washington on November 27, Representative Boies of Iowa urged Congress to back a bill to regulate surplus farm crops, warning of a “distressing” agriculture situation or possible farmer action if relief is not provided. He would work with Senator Cummins and others to secure administration approval. In contrast, C H MacNider argued Iowa farmers have funds to weather current costs as long as corn and hog prices hold.

Baskets of Food Distributed on Thanksgiving Day

Several groups prepared and distributed baskets to needy families for Thanksgiving. Women delivered 13 baskets to homes, each including a chicken from local farmers and various staples such as butter coffee sugar jelly fruit apples potatoes bread and vegetables. The senior Christian Endeavor society of the Presbyterian church also helped with distributions. Lincoln grade school children delivered a quantity of food to a family known to the pupils.

Mitchells Celebrate Fifty-First Wedding Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Mitchell of 810 South Pine Street observed their fifty-first anniversary at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Cihak on 900 North Lincoln Street. A noon dinner, festive ribbons, a large cake, and out of town guests from Anita and Des Moines marked the celebration.

Arguments to Dismiss Wheeler Indictment in DC Court

Washington, Nov. 27. Arguments for and against dismissal of the indictment against Senator Wheeler of Montana began before Justice Bailey in the District of Columbia supreme court. Wheeler's counsel Senator Walsh argued the conspiracy charge rests on the same facts as a Montana acquittal over Gordon Campbell oil operator prior improper representation. The government asserts the cases are distinct in transactions and must stand.

Death of H N Linebarger Remembers Local Banker

H N Dick Linebarger longtime banker in Greenfield Orient and Kent died Thursday night at his Denver home. Survived by widow and two children Hugh and Ruth. He spent a week in this community recently and was connected with a Denver real estate and loan firm. Funeral services set for Sunday in Denver.

Progress in Pierson case on Thanksgiving day

In district court at Thanksgiving progress was made in the Pierson fraudulent banking case against W F Pierson cashier of the States Savings bank of Afton. Witnesses examined include receiver F D Sargent and director A E Otis with testimony on bank condition and indebtedness. Des Moines banker J B Woolensock testified bonds were sold and proceeds credited to the bank. The trial began Wednesday with a nine man jury and a Thanksgiving lunch period.

Big Congregation At Christian Church Revival

A large crowd attended the opening revival service at the Christian church Thursday night. Miss Opal May Nelson led the chorus and sang a coda. Rev. H. H. Twyford preached on Preciousness urging believers from all churches to live as an elect race and royal priesthood. A program by the chorus and Miss Nelson was set for tonight at 7:30, with public invitation.

New Fire Escapes For Three Schools

Runaway Pony Injures 6-Year-Old Maxine Snyder

Maxine Snyder six, daughter of Mr and Mrs W A Snyder, suffered a leg fracture when the buggy she rode in ran away north of Cres ton. The injury occurred Wednesday afternoon while returning from school as the pony became frightened. She will be taken to Creston tomorrow for further treatment.

Unluckiest Man Again In Hospital in Arkansas

Little Rock reports J. W. Parker of Mena, longtime Arkansas general assembly member known as the unluckiest man in Arkansas, is hospitalized after a scooter accident. He previously lost a leg an arm and an eye and fractured ribs in 1925. He now suffers a fractured thigh from automobile crash.
