Steers Car Into Telephone Pole. Driver Killed

Fort Dodge reporting, John J. Paap, 60, died after his car struck a telephone pole to avoid an oncoming car. Paap suffered a fractured skull and died three hours later at the Fort Dodge hospital. His wife had a serious operation the same day. A niece, Milda Paap, was killed six weeks earlier by a truck.

Mrs Lurany Vanderpluijm Dies After Stroke On Departure

Mrs Lurany Vanderpluijm 63 died from a stroke shortly after a minor operation at Greater Community hospital. Born April 2 1862 in Ringgold county she lived in Union county since 1886 with husband T A Vanderpuijm. Surviving are the husband and three Parker brothers. Funeral plans pending at Deitrick's parlors.

About 150 visiting delegates attend the sixth district Iowa Funeral Directors association convention in Ottumwa. Three Killed One Dying In Crossing Accident

In a crash at Benare road and the Michigan Central railroad tracks east of Toledo two men and a girl were killed and another girl was dying. The automobile was hurled 100 feet down the track and demolished by a fast train. Dead are Harold Arndt 20 Richard War 24 and Julia Kalasinski 26 of Toledo. Pauline Herwat 23 formerly Blissfield Mich., was fatally injured. Arndt was initially identified as Francis Willis a former state prohibition agent who had worked with Willis.

Mitchell May Be Called By Navy Probers

Washington reports show the navy’s Shenandoah disaster inquiry could summon Colonel William Mitchell if his army court martial testimony bears on the case. The naval panel adjourned subject to President Jones’s call while awaiting possible Mitchell testimony.

May Use County Prisoners As Witnesses In Jailed Slaying Trial

Dubuque Iowa November 25 The trial of Clarence Olson alias Harold Carlson began after a jury was seated for the slaying of Dubuque county jailer Jailer Wemmer on October 12. The state will call prisoners Henry Truda and others as witnesses and Olson’s co defendants Earl Starnes and Donald Kerdell are in custody awaiting trial.

Baptist church brotherhood elects officers in Tuesday meeting

W. C. Critchfield was elected president with H. A. Showers as vice president and J. R. Carlson as secretary and treasurer. Committees were named and plans set for the first formal meeting. Turkey Dinner for Eight Costs Five Dollars and Seventy-One Cents

Local Creston grocers estimate a full turkey dinner for eight at about 5.71 dollars in raw products. A Des Moines comparison suggests Creston is cheaper, noting prices for an eight person feast include an eight pound turkey about 3.60, potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pies, and butter with small per item costs.

Coolidge Commutes Chapman Sentence

Gerald Chapman refuses presidential commutation of his 25 year federal robbery sentence, while a habeas corpus writ seeks his appearance at the federal court. President Coolidge later commuted the sentence, signed at 6 p m and delivered to Warden Scott for service.

Cummins to Seek Bill for Iowa Junior Federal Judge

Federal Judge Martin J. Wade said Senator Cummins will introduce a bill in Congress to authorize appointing a second or junior judge for the federal district court in Iowa. Wade noted crowded dockets could require an extra session soon after the new year.

Holiday Spirit Prevailed Ahead of Thanksgiving Day in Creston

Creston motorists and residents prepared for Thanksgiving with stores busier and a friendlier air. A union Thanksgiving service was held at the Presbyterian church tonight. Most stores closed tomorrow, post office hours adjusted, and schools dismissed for Thursday and Friday. Creston High faces Osceola in a Thanksgiving Day football game at Irving Field, with rail specials for Notre Dame versus Nebraska in Lincoln. Roads were reported in good condition for travel despite forecasts of rain or snow.
