Iowa State College to Exhibit Work Across Departments

Ames May 7 Special to the Advertiser Iowa State College plans a giant all college exhibition May 14 15 and 16 during Weishea with open houses by agricultural engineering and other divisions. Highlights include a milk fountain in dairy, horn of plenty for crops, lightning by electrical engineers, and lifting the world demonstration by mechanical engineers. Visible also are home economics displays in physics building and live models near Margaret hall. The hospital and library will open to the public, and infantry and sciences sections will show rare books and war paraphernalia.

Farmers Profit Meet Aims To Unite Middle West Groups

Des Moines hosts a one day conference to seek a unified program to insure farmers profit on production. More than 150 representatives from farm bureaus unions co operatives and rural groups in 10 states will attend. Milo Reno leads arrangements and hopes for progressive results. The effort follows a Kansas City proposal by the Farmers Co operative and Educational Union of America to secure coordinated legislative action.

London May 8 Europeans of the present day have smaller brains than formerly, per Sir Arthur Keith a noted anthropologist. He spoke at the Royal Institution on evolution and noted Western Europe’s Ice Age inhabitants likely had larger brains than today. He also claimed the mean height of modern Englishmen is five six rather than five eight as once thought.

Farmer urges college training for farm youth

George Godfrey of Kossuth county urges farm boys who remain on farms to pursue college training. A 1909 Iowa State College alumnus, he credits education with broadening his problem solving, improving decision making and adapting to changing farming conditions. He operates a 160 acre farm near Algona with diverse crops and pasture, using sweet clover rotation, alfalfa hay, and beef cattle plus a 33 lambs from 28 ewes.
