River Steamer Sinks After Mississippi Outing
The United States government steamer M. E. Norman sank in the Mississippi near Coahoma landing while returning from a Mid South Association of Engineers convention outing. About 60 aboard, 30 were rescued by Tom Lee and others, including Captain Howard T. Fenton, with divers planned to search the hull for more victims. The boat lay stern up 200 yards from shore as rescue crews combed the banks.
