The influenza outbreak prompted the Board of Health to order closures of churches, schools, and other gathering places until further notice. Local events included a helpful community meeting at the M E church with E C Stokes, church memberships at First Church, and a missionary rally at Second Church.
The State Board of Health requires reports from all persons with influenza or pneumonia. Doctors are overtaxed, so reports should be made by telephone or mail to C. Raymond Wicorf, Secretary Board of Health, Cranbury Township.
A crowd at Second Presbyterian Church on Sunday evening supported the Fourth Liberty Loan for the district with music by the Community Choir a solo by Miss Hattie Lewis readings by Miss Mary Spaulding and a quartet. Judge Peter Francis Daly spoke as orator and Corporal Oliver of Canada shared his experiences. Cranbury surpassed expectations by raising over 200000 signaling strong local support.
Cranbury and vicinity celebrate a successful Fourth Liberty Loan drive with pride in 100 percent American support. The Lisperry Loan Committee praises participants, notes late responders can still join by October 19, and urges others to contribute for the country's cause.

Mrs. Samuel C. Bastedo Milas Beatrice Evelyn Cottrell died at her home in Trenton after four months of marriage. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cot trell of Cranbury. A. B. Cole Son & Co. conveyed her remains to Cranbury for a private funeral.
Funeral services for Fred A. Doyle 84 longtime Hightstown resident chief of the fire department hotel manager died at home. He had sought a railroad post and recently filled a government service role. Survived by widow Nellie Doyle mother Helen Doyle sisters Mrs Truex and Mrs Harbourt.
Dr C Montange Franklin died Wednesday afternoon at his home on South Main Street after a brief illness influenza was the cause of death He was 37 years old He funeral was private and interment at Cedar Hill cemetery He practiced with his father Dr George H Franklin and served as medical inspector for the borough township and schools He belonged to Mercer County New Jersey state and American Medical Associations He is survived by his widow Irma L Eldridge a son Charles M Jr his father a brother and a sister Mrs E D Johnston

Newark flood of refugees from Morgan South Amboy plants triggers rapid YWCA response. Over 1500 rooms listed with 1200 more to check, and the YWCA hands the room list to Senator William J. Morgan. The 53 Washington Street building becomes emergency dormitories with catering and staff on duty.
A forbidden pair at a church exchanges hymn books to hide love letters. The young man, a church officer, passes the messages before service. Letters were crafted to read from end to beginning using lead punctuation to avoid detection.
