The Second Presbyterian Church outlines a busy week with Sunday morning worship by Rev. Frederick Schweitzer and Sunday School at 10 o clock. Mon afternoon children’s class and evening teacher training and adult Bible classes led by Rev. L. E. Lennox. The Adult Bible Class studies the Confession of Faith. Armistice Day memorial sermon planned. C E Societies of the First and Second Churches meet Sunday evenings at 6 30 with topics and leaders listed. Junior C E Society meets Sunday afternoon at 3 with topic How Phillip used his opportunities. Stanley Owens leads.
The Woman's Club of Cranbury will hold a meeting next Wednesday November 17 with Mrs Clifford Conover. The subject is Science and Industries. Committee members include Mrs Spaulding and Mrs Conover.
Last year the ladies of the Second Church enjoyed gatherings to quilt and on Tuesday all the ladies are invited to the chapel at 9 a m for an informal quiltin partie Box Juneh Bring-your-S and-Chewing.
About fifty friends of Mr and Mrs A A Duncan visited their home on Saturday evening bringing the Rosedale Band. They enjoyed a merry evening with music and refreshments. Guests came from Kingston Rosedale Dutch Neck Princeton Hightstown Lawrenceville and Cranbury.
The Woman's Club held an afternoon program featuring a Reading upon Art by Mrs. Samuel Perrine and fancy dances in costume by Miss Kramer of Rahway. Accompanist Mrs. Du Rei noted performances including the Old Fashioned Dance the Greek Dance and the Oriental or Moon Dance. The Greek dance drew special praise for sixteen year old Miss Kramer. The club plans more novel programs throughout the year.
Monday evening guests gathered at Monmouth Road residence for a birthday surprise honoring Andrew McDowell. Attendees included William Donnell George Miller Windsor Charles Mount Jasoon Ralph Farr Alonzo McDowell South Amboy Annie Miller William Riley Nettie Donnell Franklin Donnell Frank Wolfe Warren Tute and others.
A community event titled Stitch and Chatter Supper and Bazaar is planned for Thursday December 2 at the local hall. Proceeds support neighborhood projects and service clubs. Volunteers welcome for setup, cooking, and sales as staff organize food stalls crafts and games.
Rev Frederick Schweitzer preached a plain sermon on Purity of Life urging youths to resist temptations and detailing consequences. Rev Joseph E B Curry spoke at First Church on The Danger of Drifting, stressing straight paths. Rev Lennox closed with Whatsoever a Man Soweth, stressing strict morality and right living for the community.
A church group expresses thanks for Dinner and Supper preparations by Election Day Committee and announces the sixty sixth anniversary of the Jamesburg Presbyterian Sunday school on November 14 1920 at 3 00 P M. The program includes hymns scripture reading address by Rev Frank B Eve ritt and benediction. The Helping Hand Missionary Society plans a sociable next Wednesday at president Mrs J Edward Chamberlains home and notes Christmas box packing for Tennessee children.
Walter H Havens 50 a prominent Cranbury resident died after an apoplexy while walking on North Main Street Sunday evening. He led Cranbury Fire Company and was active in the First Presbyterian Church and local Granges. Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church with Masonic rites at Imlay's Hill Cemetery.
Edward W. Dunham was unanimously re-elected general superintendent of the Third Presbyterian church Sunday school in Trenton at the teachers association annual meeting. He enters his twentieth year as superintendent, with enrollment growing from 225 to over 1300. The gathering also elected 39 officers and chairmen, created a lady superintendent post held by Mrs Harry S. Jones, and named Miss Hattie T. Wiley secretary.
Elmer E Wyckoff was sworn in as sheriff of Middlesex county by Judge Peter F Daly at the county clerk s office. The brief ceremony followed by the oath and a $20000 bond, with welcomes from Judge Daly and outgoing Sheriff Charles Anderson. Wyckoff announced his appointees and salaries, with others to be named next week, as a crowd gathered to witness the handover.
A breezy comedy titled The Elopément of Ellen will be presented by the Senior C HK Society at Second Church Chapel on Thursday November 18 at 8 PM. Tickets cost 35c. The play, set in 1916 Pleasant Hill near New York, follows Ellen and a lively cast including Mr. Richard Ford and Molly as they host a house party with comic misunderstandings and a happy ending.
